Divorce

The attorneys at Bradford & Coenen understand that a divorce proceeding may present you with one of the most traumatic times of your life.  Some authorities refer to the process as a “life changing event.”  Our combined experience in excess of 65 years in handling these cases has taught us that our clients need our help, both in understanding the process and in leading them through it.

At Bradford & Coenen we are trained to offer you a variety of approaches to confront the issues that you might face including child custody, support and visitation, alimony and the equitable division of assets and debts.

Traditional Approach

The traditional approach generally involves each party retaining an attorney to represent their interest, with communication generally going through the attorneys.  The parties exchange information through counsel, attempt to reach a settlement of the issues and if unsuccessful, have a trial in front of a judge who then decides.  This process can be amicable, but can also be highly adversarial.  Bradford & Coenen will always zealously represent your interest throughout this process.

Collaborative Approach

With collaborative divorce, spouses can choose to settle their differences in a respectful and dignified manner, while protecting their legal and financial interests and still maintain the well-being of their children and themselves, all without Court intervention.  This process involves independent unaffiliated practitioners who will work together to guide separating and divorcing clients through restructuring the family unit and resolving their legal, financial and emotional issues in a cooperative manner.  This process contemplates the parties sitting down together with their counsel in a non-adversarial setting and working towards a reasonable solution to their divorce issues and requires communication and complete and full disclosure.  Rather than battle, the parties work together to reach an agreement satisfactory to all.  Bradford & Coenen makes this approach to the divorce process available to its clients.

Limited Scope Representation

Limited scope representation is a way that an attorney can help you with part of your case, while you do the rest of your case.  In this setting a client would retain an attorney to assist with specific elements of a matter, such as legal advice, document preparation or document review and/or limited appearances.  The client and attorney agree on the specific discrete tasks to be performed by the client and the attorney.  If you feel that you are comfortable with the divorce process, but need some help with pleadings or negotiations or just to be advised as the case proceeds further, we can be retained to represent you for limited duties.  Please feel free to discuss this approach with us if you believe it may meet your needs.
